Minnesota Vikings defensive end Danielle Hunter has yet to take on the gridiron in the early stages of the 2020 NFL season. He was reported to have sustained a cervical spine disc herniation and was placed on the team's injured reserve list on September 9. He is expected to miss the entire year but the team is optimistic that he will return at some point in the later stages of the season.

The two-time Pro Bowler hinted on a Twitter post which was indicative of him possibly making his return in the field sometime soon.

The former LSU Tiger has established himself as a cornerstone of the Vikings defense ever since his arrival in 2015. He garnered a career-high 52 solo tackles and 14.5 sacks through 16 games played last season. His performance eventually powered his team to the 2019 NFL Playoffs to which they had a valiant showing.

The Vikings' defensive rotation has been unable to hold its ground after losing Pro Bowl defensive end Everson Griffen to the Dallas Cowboys during the offseason. They have surrendered a bevy of points to their counterparts in the first three games of the season which all resulted in losses.

The Vikings lost their opening game via a 43-34 beating by division rival Green Bay Packers. They visited the Indianapolis Colts in Week 2 and suffered a similar outcome via a 28-11 losing effort followed by a nail-biting 31-30 loss to the Tennessee Titans in Week 3 proceedings.

The Purple and Gold will certainly be needing Danielle Hunter back in their lineup before they find themselves in a deeper hole and miss the upcoming playoffs altogether. The coming weeks will see if he will indeed make an appearance on the field this season and help salvage the Vikings' campaign in 2020.
