Minnesota Vikings defensive end Everson Griffen is going to play this coming Sunday after all. Although Griffen has re-joined the Vikings this week after spending multiple weeks away from football and his team to deal with a mental health issue that beset him earlier this season, it was initially uncertain whether he’s going to appear in Week 8’s marquee matchup with the New Orleans Saints at home.

But according to the team’s official website, Griffen is on his way to taking the field for the first time since Week 2 this coming Sunday.

Everson Griffen (not injury related) is slated to make his return to the Vikings lineup after being inactive in each of the past five games. Griffen returned to practice on Wednesday and was a full participant all week.

Griffen most recently saw action during Sep. 17’s 29-29 tie with the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field.

Griffen’s absence stemmed from a frightening series of incidents, which reportedly included the veteran showing up at a hotel and threatening to shoot someone. It was also reported that he jumped out of an ambulance seemingly distraught.

In any case, Griffen is apparently back to fine form, mentally and physically, which is good news for the Vikings and the veteran’s family as well.

It’s unsure how much playing time the Vikings are going to give Griffen against the Saints, but he’s a proven defensive piece Minnesota can count on to contribute.
