The 2020 NFL Draft is in the rearview mirror for teams and the Minnesota Vikings have their sights on finalizing extensions with some of their current players. After a massive haul in the draft, Vikings GM Rick Spielman hints at an extension for Dalvin Cook, per ESPN's Courtney Cronin.

In recent years, the Vikings have shown a tendency of completing extensions following the draft. As a result, Minnesota could turn their attention to getting a deal done with Cook this offseason.

“We’ve always had history in the past of once we got through the draft, a lot of the extensions we’ve done, our philosophy has always been [that] hopefully we’re drafting well enough that we reward our own players,” Spielman said, via ProFootballTalk. “Dalvin Cook’s a critical part of our offense and not only is he a great football player, but he’s a great human being off the field on how he represents our organization out in the community. We’ll see where that goes. I’m sure we’ll be talking to his representatives here down the road as we get closer. A lot of our stuff has gotten done before we’ve headed into training camp. But we’ll see how everything progresses.”

As Minnesota's second-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, Cook has gradually become the team's No. 1 running back. Last season, Cook was able to contribute a career-best 1,654 yards from scrimmage and 13 touchdowns.

Even with Kirk Cousins under center, it was evident that Minnesota wanted Cook to be the focal point of their offense in 2019. Following a productive season, the Vikings want to make sure Cook remains with the organization for years to come.
