Former Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Stefon Diggs is now officially a member of the Buffalo Bills after becoming the centerpiece of a massive trade between the two teams earlier this offseason.

Vikings general manager Rick Spielman recently commented on his decision to make such a deal.

“We had no intention of trading Diggs at the Combine,” Spielman said during a Tuesday conference call, via Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press. “He was a great player. He was a great in the community.”

Something obviously changed between the 2020 NFL Scouting Combine and when Diggs was ultimately moved by the Vikings — but what precisely happened?

“I’m going to leave all those internal discussions in house,” Spielman added. “It just came to a point that all the draft capital we were able to get was a good business decision for us and a good business decision for him.”

However, this move remains a curious one as the Vikings will now absolutely need to secure a wide receiver as a result of the upcoming 2020 NFL Draft. This year's NFL Draft class is especially talented at the position, which may have factored into Spielman's decision to trade away Diggs to the Bills.

“He’s not only a major part of our offense and a major part of our organization winning games, but he also does a lot of things for this organization off the field,” Spielman said back in February, via NBC Sports Pro Football Talk. “There’s no reason — the rumors or whatever you’re talking about — to anticipate that Stefon Diggs is not going to be a Minnesota Viking.”

Of course, things change but the Vikings need to address this major void left on the team's roster as Minnesota has only really added former Tennessee Titans wide out Tajae Sharpe at this point in the offseason.
