The Minnesota Vikings are as active as any team going into the offseason despite coming off an appearance in the NFC Championship Game. In their pursuit of quarterback Kirk Cousins, the Vikings have cut back on their spending thus far with free agency around the corner.

However, that has not stopped them from adding some depth to key positions. According to Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press, Minnesota will tender running back Mack Brown for the 2018 NFL season:

“A source said the Vikings also will give a one-year, $630,000 tender to exclusive-rights free agent running back Mack Brown, and he will sign it.”

The move to retain Brown should come as no surprise. Both the Vikings and running back Jerick McKinnon have made it clear they plan to part ways this offseason. McKinnon largely filled a complementary role last season behind running backs Dalvin Cook and Latavius Murray. That said, it seems Brown may be poised to fill that role.

The former undrafted free agent spent over two seasons with the Washington Redskins as a fill-in between the practice squad and the actual 53-man roster. Brown has shown some promise as a preseason juggernaut in year's past, however, he had been waived within the first two months of the 2017 NFL season.

The Vikings claimed him off waivers soon thereafter in response to the season-ending injury to running back Dalvin Cook. Brown appeared in just one game the rest of the season. The Florida product has registered 111 yards and a touchdown in his two-year career thus far
