COVID-19 has been running rampant throughout the country. Professional sports leagues and college programs alike are struggling to maintain rosters and depth. Unfortunately for the Virginia Cavaliers and SMU Mustangs, they won't be participating in the Wasabi Fenway Bowl this year.

According to the Wasabi Fenway Bowl Twitter account, the bowl game has officially been canceled. Virginia has been removed from the contest due to the COVID-19 outbreak within the program. They are unable to find a replacement team for SMU, which means this matchup is completely canceled.

We've seen a few bowl games make some changes this season, as Rutgers had the opportunity to replace another team for the same reason. With bowl season underway, there just aren't many options to find replacements right now. This is a brutal development for the seniors on Virginia and SMU, as they won't participate in their final college football game.

We'll see if the NCAA can contain the virus, as COVID-19 has disrupted the final stretch of the college football season. With Virginia and SMU not playing the Fenway Bowl anymore, we could see some other important matchups get canceled as well. The virus has disrupted multiple games in many different sports leagues, making it a tough time for all involved.

For now, Virginia and SMU will end their year and focus on the offseason. With January right around the corner, we have plenty of college football left. Make sure to catch the College Football Playoffs and Championship game later in January.
