The Golden State Warriors plan to offer Klay Thompson a five-year, $190 million maximum contract when free agency begins on Sunday:

The deal is expected to be completed as soon as Sunday night.

Thompson has consistently reiterated his desire to stay with Golden State. But while Thompson has long wanted to stay, his priority was also getting a maximum contract. Since the Warriors are willing to do that despite a torn ACL suffered in Game 6 of the NBA Finals, it makes the decision to stay an easy one. Thompson has become one of the league’s best two-way players, and he's one of the foundational pieces of the Warriors' dynasty.

There were reports saying Thompson had planned on taking meetings with the Los Angeles Clippers and Los Angeles Lakers had the Warriors not offered a max deal, but it looks like he won't be taking those now.

With Thompson set to be back in the fold, Golden State will turn its attention to Kevin Durant. The plan there is for the Warriors to also offer the superstar a five-year maximum deal worth more than $220 million. Durant suffered a torn Achilles during the NBA Finals and is set to miss the entire 2019-20 season, but the Warriors seem willing to foot the bill to bring back their four stars.

If everything goes the Warriors' way, they'll be paying a hefty bill when it comes to the luxury tax, but will be able to head into the 2020-21 NBA season as the favorite once again.
