The Golden State Warriors are back in the NBA Finals again after a two-year absence. This team now has a chance to build on its legacy — one that many believed was over after seeing what the Dubs had gone through over the past two seasons.

In a recent interview, Warriors owner Joe Lacob revealed talked about the path this team took to reach the pinnacle this season. As it turns out, the makeup of this Golden State roster could have looked much different than how it has been constructed today. According to Lacob, however, they knew all along that adding another superstar alongside Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson was not the way to go:

“I know we — I, Bob, the organization — took some criticism that we should trade our draft choices to get one more great player. I was adamant about it, so was [Bob Myers], that that was not the path,” Lacob said, via Anthony Slater of The Athletic.

The Warriors had two lottery picks entering the draft. They refused the temptation of trading them away in exchange for an established star and instead, they selected Jonathan Kuminga as the seventh overall pick and Moses Moody at 14. That decision turned out to be an excellent one with the Dubs now on the brink of their fourth title in eight years.
