Even before the game between the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers was played on Monday, a lot of fans already anticipated it to be a very competitive matchup, especially being the first time both teams will play each other since the Finals back in June. It turned out as expected, as the defending Eastern and Western Conference champions once again gave it their all in the game.

It quickly became a hotly-contented one early on, as Kevin Durant was called for a technical foul for excessive complaining to the referees. He then claimed after the match, via Chris Haynes of ESPN, that both Isaiah Thomas and Tristan Thompson tried to convince the game officials to throw him out of the game with another technical.

“Man, I understand that’s a part of the rules, but they didn’t want me out the game,” Durant said. “They didn’t want to win that way. It meant nothing to me. Technically, they were trying to get me to get tossed. It wouldn’t have felt the same if they would have gotten me tossed and they would have won that game. So, I moved past that. It wasn’t serious.”

As it turned out, Durant was able to keep his emotions in check the rest of the way, which allowed him to lead the Warriors to a 99-92 win over their rivals. He finished the game with a team-high 25 points, to go along with seven rebounds, three assists, two steals, and five blocked shots.

If Durant’s claims are indeed true, it will only make the next meeting between the Warriors and Cavs even more interesting. The good news for the fans is the wait will not be long, as their second and final game of the regular season is already scheduled on January 15 inside Quicken Loans Arena.
