Kevin Garnett gave a few words of advice for Golden State Warriors forward Kevin Durant, who was recently named the 2019 All-Star MVP, but will return to the Bay Area to face questions of his impending free agency among the mingling that takes place over the break.

Garnett understands his position as a former star of the game, but also advised the four-time scoring champion to channel his energy solely in the task ahead, a three-peat that could take his legacy to greater heights.

“You have to understand. When media outlets or anybody wants any of your energy and time, you control that. I would tell him, if he was able to, to block things out,” said Garnett, according to Alex Wong of Yahoo Canada Sports. “There are tons of ways to be able to let media know about your frustrations, what’s frustrating you, and most of them understand that.

“I would just focus on basketball. I wouldn’t focus on the questions, on the media, I would focus on basketball, and winning, and trying to three-peat, and forming my legacy. My advice to him would be to let the questions be what they are, answer what you feel, and if you don’t feel like answering, say next question. It’s that simple. You control it.

Durant is only months away from possibly re-shaping his legacy as one of the few star players to ever three-peat in this league, a feat that will perhaps be more memorable than any free agent decision he makes from here on out.

Netting a third championship ring in three years with the Warriors could solidify a place among the greatest players to ever touch the hardwood, much more than any story can do for his image at this point.
