Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors are looking to wrap up the 2022 NBA Finals on Thursday night by defeating the Boston Celtics in Game 6. They'll have to do it in Boston, however, and that won't be easy by any stretch of the imagination. Thankfully, they'll have Game 6 Klay Thompson on their side, which could shift the tide dramatically.

If you don't already know, Warriors guard Klay Thompson is known for historically having big Game 6's throughout his NBA Playoff career. The biggest one, of course, was the 44-point, 11 three-pointer explosion in game 6 of the 2016 Western Conference Finals between the Warriors and Oklahoma City Thunder. Thompson scored 19 of the Warriors 33 fourth quarter points, including five three-pointers, en route to the win that forced a Game 7 back home at Oracle Arena.

Game 6 Klay had to be put on pause for a few years as Klay Thompson rehabbed his injuries, but he made a return in the 2022 Western Conference semi-finals. Thompson led the Warriors to a Game 6 win over the Memphis Grizzlies, scoring 30 points and knocking down eight three-pointers.

Stephen Curry is coming off one of his worst shooting games of his career in Game 5, one in which he failed to make at least one three-pointer for the first time in almost four years. That led Draymond Green to say he believes Curry will be livid and want to bounce back in Game 6.

Could we see a Game 6 Steph in addition to Game 6 Klay? Curry was asked that ahead of Thursday's game, but did not like the nickname.

“I will in no way infringe upon that nickname for Klay,” Stephen Curry said with a laugh. “I'm just going to do my job and try to help us get a win, enjoy what that would actually mean.”

If there's one thing everyone will be expecting on Thursday night, it's a big Klay Thompson game. Just look at what he's done in his last seven Game 6's:

So what's the secret to Thompson's epic Game 6 performances?

“Game 6 Klay, I don't know how he's been able to do it,” Curry responded. “Just his personality, no moment is too big for him in terms of hooping, enjoying himself, embracing hostile crowds, or if we're at home enjoying the home atmosphere.

“Obviously, the OKC game is the one at the top of the list in terms of how much that meant individually and for us as a team to come back in that series. He has a knack for those type of big moments. Just so happened to be Game 6. And he has another opportunity to add to that tale tomorrow.”

For one, Klay Thompson admits he doesn't plan to do anything special or out of the ordinary ahead of the big game.

“I would like to have a big night and win the game,” Thompson said. “It doesn't matter what any of us do individually. The main goal is just to win one game.

“I don't want to put any extra pressure on myself to live up to my name. I just want to go out there and play free, trust my teammates. And I know great things will happen if I do those two things.”

Klay Thompson does know what his history of Game 6's has been like, especially recently. It's something he wants to continue to live up to, but not put too much pressure and focus on.

“I realize I'm on a really good streak right now of Game 6's,” Thompson added of Game 6 Klay. “I don't know how long that will last. Hopefully, obviously tomorrow.

“It's obviously a nickname I earned. I want to live up to it. At the same time, I don't want to go in there and play hero ball. I'm just going to be in there and be myself, do what I've been doing the last few games. I know that will allow us to be successful.”

Game 6 between the Golden State Warriors and Boston Celtics will tip off at 6PM PST. Will it be the final game of the 2021-22 NBA season? Or will the Celtics win and force a Game 7 back in San Francisco?
