The Golden State Warriors have expressed interest in soon-to-be free agent Anthony Davis of the New Orleans Pelicans, despite the lack of a realistic pathway to land him in the near future, according to ESPN's Zach Lowe.

The Warriors have been publicly linked to Davis before — and would surely be interested, sources say — but it's hard to find a realistic path ahead of next season.

Golden State is unlikely to trade centerpiece Stephen Curry, who recently locked down a five-year, $201 million pact to cement his stake as the team's franchise player. Kevin Durant is bound to be a free agent at season's end and Draymond Green's stock has largely plummeted over the last season-and-change thanks to his horrific shooting.

The Warriors also have little to offer when it comes to draft picks, while Klay Thompson is highly unlikely to agree to a sign-and-trade situation that would send him to the New Orleans Pelicans after constantly reiterating his desire to retire a Warrior.

Golden State's front office is merely doing its due diligence by asking and potentially entertaining his acquisition, as those who don't ask, don't get.

Davis' main suitors are the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers, but the former is impeded from acquiring him right away unless they trade him for Kyrie Irving, who is the team's one acquired designated player until he becomes a free agent in July 1.
