Washington Football linebacker Reuben Foster has been placed on the injured reserve, per John Keim of ESPN.

The decision to place Foster on IR prior to final cuts ends his season before it even gets going with the Washington Football team.

Foster had been taken off the physically unable to perform (PUP) list in early August after suffering a knee injury in May of 2019. However, he will not get the opportunity to launch a comeback this season.

The former first-round pick has had trouble staying on the field since the San Francisco 49ers drafted him in the spring of 2017. He has played just 16 career games in the NFL.

Reuben Foster looked like a potential staple of San Francisco's defense during his rookie campaign, racking up 72 combined tackles and five quarterback hits in 10 games. But things would go downhill in a hurry.

The Niners waived the former Alabama star at the end of the 2018 season while he was being investigated for a domestic violence allegation, though Foster was eventually cleared of all charges.

The unnamed Washington Football team picked Foster up in November of 2018, and he figured to be a contributor to the defense for the 2019 season. But Foster sustained injuries to the ACL and LCL during spring practices, ending his season early.

The Washington Football Team has made a slew of cuts in recent days, including veteran running back Adrian Peterson and safety Sean Davis, the latter being a more curious move. Washington previously guaranteed half of Davis' $4 million salary for this year.

In any case, Foster will need to wait yet another year–at least–before he hopes to resume his career.
