Washington Football Team head coach Ron Rivera responded to Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy's recent statement regarding their teams' upcoming match. McCarthy spoke in a press conference and guaranteed a win for his Cowboys team, but Rivera believes otherwise.

McCarthy said, “We're going to win the game. I'm confident in that.” Rivera wanted to make sure that his Washington players responded to that statement properly. In doing so, he delivered a fiery speech that will surely increase his team's motivation entering the game. Rivera believes that McCarthy's statement wasn't so much for the press but more for the Cowboys themselves (via NFL.com):

“According to sources in the room on Friday morning, Rivera told his players that McCarthy's comments weren't for the press, they were for his own Dallas team. Rivera added that McCarthy must be trying to get into the heads of the Cowboys players and make sure they had the right mindset for Sunday's game between the division rivals.”

However, Rivera thinks McCarthy may have directed his comments at his upcoming Washington opponents. Rivera told his players to just ignore the comments and to not care about them. Rivera commented further and said that McCarthy may have made a mistake in delivering such a bold statement (via NFL.com):

“That's interesting, it's not important.” Washington's preparation is what's important, he noted before adding: “I think that's another mistake because he's now made it about him and what he said. It's not about his players anymore. So, I think that's a big mistake.

The Cowboys are favored to win the game. However, Ron Rivera will hope his Washington players can deliver a result against Mike McCarthy's Cowboys.
