Before the NFL trade deadline last week, the Houston Texans made the decision to acquire former Pro Bowl wide receiver Demaryius Thomas from the Denver Broncos.

It is a move that the Texans made that included consulting with wide receivers coach Wes Welker, who used to be Thomas' former teammate with the Broncos, according to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle.

“Yeah, they just asked me what type of guy he was,” Welker said. “Obviously, D.T.'s a great dude. He was like my little brother when we were there in Denver. He's done a great job with his career and hopefully we just keep it going here.”

Welker had played with Thomas for two seasons that saw them both be featured as primary pieces to the passing game that helped the Broncos to be one of the powerhouse teams in the league. This time together for that brief period of time allowed him to get a strong read on the type of player and person that the 30-year-old is.

The addition of Thomas brings the Texans possibly a legitimate No.2 receiving threat in the passing game that could elevate him and DeAndre Hopkins to being among the best duos in the league. He got off to a solid start in the 19-17 win over the Broncos on Sunday afternoon as he posted three catches on three targets for 61 receiving yards that included a 31-yard reception. Thomas has shown the big-play ability that second-year quarterback Deshaun Watson could look to depend on in the passing game.

Houston has been progressive trending in the right direction with a six-game win streak that has pushed them to sole possession of the top spot in the AFC South. Thomas will have a chance to get further acclimated into the offensive game plan during the bye week prior to the Week 11 matchup on the road against the Washington Redskins.
