Chicago White Sox star Eloy Jimenez has been out of action since late April. On Wednesday, he made his return and provided instant impact.

Jimenez helped propel the White Sox to a 9-8 victory in extra innings against the American League Central division-leading Minnesota Twins.

The 25-year-old started a bit slowly, striking out in his first plate appearance. In the third inning, he came alive. Jimenez ripped a ball down the left-field line that just barely stayed in fair territory to tie the game at three.

Jimenez also contributed defensively in the sixth inning. He tracked down a fly ball down the left-field line, making the grab and running into the netting.

The 25-year-old tied the game once more in the seventh inning. He came up to hit with two outs, and hit a single to drive in a run to make the score 6-6.

Following the game, Jimenez's reaction to his performance was simple:

“It was one of the days you feel like, ‘Yeah, I'm back,'” Jimenez said.

The White Sox tied the game on five occasions before finally winning it in the 10th inning. Leury Garcia singled home Adam Engel to call game.

Jimenez had an insane rookie season, belting 31 home runs as a rookie in 2019. However, the 25-year-old has struggled with injury issues. He's played just 66 games since the start of the 2021 season.

The team knows what he can be, and want to do what they can to help keep him on the field.

“The bottom line is, he's a very important guy to us so whatever it takes to get him right, he's a high priority,” White Sox manager Tony La Russa said of Jimenez on Tuesday.
