Chicago White Sox star Eloy Jimenez is expected to miss significant time after suffering a right hamstring tear, per Jon Heyman. The injury occurred in Saturday's loss to the Twins.

The injury news comes as no surprise after Jimenez went down immediately in Saturday's contest. Jimenez played just 55 games last season after suffering a significant pectoral injury. He returned just in time for the playoffs.

Jimenez came up through the Cubs' farm system before being shipped off as a part of the Jose Quintana trade. He made his big league debut in 2019, as he finished fourth in the AL Rookie of the Year voting. That season remains his best one yet, as he slashed .267/.315/.513 with 31 homers and 79 RBIs in 122 games.

Jimenez has played in just 120 games since. In 2021, he had career worsts in numerous stats, as his power took a dip while his on-base percentage continued at a low rate. This season, Jimenez started just eight-for-35 (.229) with just one homer and seven RBIs.

This couldn't come at a worse time in the season, as the White Sox have struggled out of the gates. While still early, they are 6-8 through their first 14 games. Thankfully for them, the AL Central is still their division for the taking. Despite the slow start, they are just a game behind the first-place Guardians.

Jimenez's injury is less than ideal, but the Windy City's AL side should be able to weather the storm with him out. Until then, they'll have to do so without one of their premier power hitters.
