Washington Wizards head coach Scott Brooks has no interest in holding a dual title as coach and front office executive in light of the recent firing of longtime president Ernie Grunfeld.

Brooks put it plainly when asked to gauge his interest.

“You have to be single or will be single,” said Brooks, according to Ben Standig of NBC Sports Washington.

Brooks has seen the fate of recent dual title-holding coaches like Detroit's Stan Van Gundy and Minnesota's Tom Thibodeau, who ultimately lost both jobs due to poor coordination to do either at a high level.

While having both titles helps steer the organization with an equilateral train of thought, it's also detrimental to the goal of checks and balances — a much-needed control preset in a front office, where so many decisions have to be made in a daily basis.

Van Gundy and Thibodeau saw that firsthand, as they were fired from their respective jobs after failing to meet expectations from ownership.

The Wizards will have second dibs on a slew of GM candidates ranging from former Cleveland Cavaliers GM David Griffin, Houston Rockets executive Gersson Rosas, Golden State Warriors executive Larry Harris, Brooklyn Nets executive Trajan Langdon, and their own interim GM, Tommy Sheppard. The New Orleans Pelicans are currently in the midst of a series of interviews with the aforementioned candidates.
