New York Yankees reliever Aroldis Chapman had a forgettable stint in his first game back from a trip to the 15-day injured list, as he was nowhere near this top form during Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader on the road against the Cleveland Guardians.

Chapman took over the mound after the Yankees got six innings of solid performance from ace Gerrit Cole and proceeded to walk three batters and give up two earned runs before getting pulled by Yankees manager Aaron Boone.

Despite his struggles in his return to action, Chapman still got the support of Boone, who must be happy to see New York's bats come alive in both games in the doubleheader in support of the team's pitching staff.

“He’s healthy,” Boone said. “He’s got to get out there and not think in terms of throwing the ball but just trusting it and letting it rip and let the results fall where they may. I think he’s just guarding against making sure he doesn’t throw a ball.

“We’ve just got to get him over the hump.”

Chapman is having trouble with his location, as evidenced by his 6.43 BB/9 this season. Last season, he posted a 6.07 BB/9. He also keeps a 3.86 ERA that doesn't look any better when juxtaposed with his 4.98 FIP. Nevertheless, the Yankees remain to have one of the best bullpens in the majors, thanks in large part to Clay Holmes and Michael King, who have a combined WAR of 2.7, so far this season.
