The Toronto Blue Jays made some big moves this offseason in order to contend for the World Series, the latest being the trade for Oakland Athletics third baseman Matt Chapman. The acquisition of Chapman dramatically shakes up the AL East, and one anonymous Yankees player didn't hide his true feelings when reacting to the deal. Via Mark Feinsand, one Yankee player said the Blue Jays were “not messing around” and claimed the AL East “is going to be crazy.”

Chapman is a huge get for the Blue Jays. Despite his struggles at the plate last season, he's shown remarkable power at the dish in years past, and is arguably the best defensive third baseman in the sport. There's no player a team would rather have manning the hot corner, and with the Blue Jays defense needing improvement, particularly in the infield, the Chapman trade was a big acquisition.

His struggles last season can be attributed to injury, as he never seemed fully recovered from the hip injury that cut his 2020 season short. Hopefully he's back to 100% now and able to improve upon his rough .210/.314/.403 slash line from 2021. If that's the case, the AL East will truly be a battle of titans, with the Rays, Yankees, Red Sox, and Jays all capable of making a run for the postseason.

Teams in the AL East need to be ready for a wild postseason race, and every divisional game will be doubly important for these teams, who will look to get an edge on the competition in any way possible.
