The Los Angeles Rams are coming off a return to the NFL playoffs this past season. Although it was a disappointing end to the season when they lost to the Green Bay Packers in the divisional round, the game helpfully showed that the team needed to improve the roster in the 2021 NFL draft.

The Rams had many issues to address including quarterback.

Jared Goff has had an up and down career and he was not cutting it for the Rams.

With Detroit Lions star quarterback Matthew Stafford on the trading block the Rams were quick to act and traded Goff, 2 1st round picks, and a third round pick for Stafford. Stafford will be an immediate upgrade over Goff and instantly elevate the offense.

The Rams made other upgrades through the draft.

Here are the 2 best moves by the Los Angeles Rams in the 2021 NFL draft.

2. Defensive tackle Bobby Brown III

While the Rams didn't have many early round draft picks they nailed one in the 4th. Defensive tackle Bobby Brown III was a good nose tackle for Texas A&M as he led the team in sacks. Brown III has a big figure as he is 6'4 and 325 pounds which allows him to be a solid run stuffer. He also has good quickness and agility for a player of his stature which will allow him to translate to the league rather easily.

The Rams defensive line includes one of if not the best defensive player in the league in Aaron Donald. With good defensive coaches and players around him, Brown III will have a great shot to learn. Brown III may not be a starter in year one but the Rams nailed this draft pick as he will fit well alongside Donald in the future.

Rams NFL draft chess moves:

1. Cornerback Robert Rochell

Another great late round find for the Rams was cornerback Robert Rochell. They also took him in the 4th round and he could make an instant impact on the Rams team. They have All Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey but don't have much around him. The Rams lost two members of the secondary in free agency in John Johnson III and Troy Hill. Rochell can come in and instantly start alongside Ramsey for this Rams team.

Rochell was a ball hawk in college as he had 10 interceptions last year. He has great athleticism but sometimes relies too much on his catch up speed. Although Rochell isn't one of the household cornerback names from the draft, he is a solid player who can help improve the secondary. Rochell won't have to cover the number one receiver on opposing teams as Ramsey will take that responsibility which should allow him to translate seamlessly.

Look for Rochell to make a big impact for the Rams in his rookie campaign.

After upgrading the already top defense in the NFL, the Rams look ready for a great 2021 season. While they didn't win the division last season the Rams have a great shot to do it this year. They are playing in a very tough division as they have the Arizona Cardinals, Seattle Seahawks, and the San Francisco 49ers. The Cardinals are an up and coming team that will also make some noise this year. While the Seahawks didn't upgrade much, they are always a solid team with Russell Wilson at quarterback. For the 49ers they have a chance to have a bounce back season after struggling due to injuries in 2020.

It will be tough for the Rams to win the division with so much competition but they have the talent to do it.
