With the season officially over for the Los Angeles Chargers, the franchise has the pleasure of focusing on the offseason. Considering they just missed the playoffs by the skin of their teeth, LA will likely aim to stack the roster for a potential Super Bowl run next year. However, we take a look at the Chargers roster and see who they should consider re-signing before the 2022 NFL Free Agency opens.

For the most part, the Chargers have a solid roster all around. Another year of cohesive play might just be exactly what this team needs. Defensively, they have some exciting players who could grow into an expanded role. Additionally, the front office should aim to maintain LA's strong secondary.

As for the offense, it's likely the Chargers seek new weapons to help out Justin Herbert. However, there is one particular player on the offense that needs to be re-signed. If Los Angeles can pull this off, the offense will reach that elite level next year.

With that said, here are our top three re-sign candidates for the Chargers 2022 NFL Free Agency.

Chargers Free Agency Re-Sign Targets

3. Uchenna Nwosu

This was Uchenna Nwosu's first season of his career where he played a starting role. Even so, his production was roughly the same, but he did finish with career highs. The Chargers linebacker ended the 2021 campaign with 40 total tackles, five sacks, two forced fumbles, and one interception.

Not the most impressive numbers, but Nwosu plays a vital role for the Chargers. Bringing him back would give LA some consistency within the front seven next year. He's still relatively young and could be a tremendous help for Los Angeles as they continue shaping their defense. Furthermore, there's a chance Uchenna Nwosu takes a step in his development and becomes a legitimate pass rusher for this defense.

2. Chris Harris

Chris Harris is an aging veteran but is still a valuable asset. He's not the same cornerback he used to be, but his experience is second to none. The Chargers could use him next year to help develop their young secondary in general. He'd serve as a safe option while a younger prospect could develop next season.

Additionally, re-signing Harris would be cost-effective. Due to his age, the Chargers cornerback is likely not going to have a ton of high-paying offers thrown his way in the open market. For that reason, LA should be able to bring back Chris Harris while saving some cap space to fill a bigger need on the roster.

1. Mike Williams

It's no question that Justin Herbert is a superstar in this league. Even so, the Chargers would be smart to keep his weapons on the roster. Mike Williams went bonkers for most of the season as he put up the best numbers of his career so far. Considering Keenan Allen isn't getting any younger, re-signing Mike Williams makes incredible sense for LA to remain competitive in the AFC West.

It's unclear what the front office plans to do in the NFL Draft, but considering there are a plethora of wide receivers available again, it wouldn't be shocking to see them take a young prospect receiver in April. Even so, bringing back Mike Williams provides the Chargers some wiggle room in their decision-making.

Williams and Allen together are a dangerous duo, but it would be beneficial to have a coveted rookie join them. That way, they'd have two superstar receivers with one developing into a star himself. If that comes to fruition, Justin Herbert will be in a winning situation in Los Angeles.
