The Pittsburgh Steelers had a season that could have gone well but, ultimately, crashed and burned. Here are three things they need to do now.

They need to give Ben Roethlisberger a contract extension.

  • Now that Antonio Brown is all but on the trade block — even though the team doesn't necessarily want him there — their best bet for winning a championship lies with the quarterback. Extending the quarterback's contract will also free up some much-needed cap space.

Make a play for Brandon Roby. Roby, who is currently the cornerback with the Denver Broncos, would be a perfect match for the Black and Yellow.

  • FanSided explains why the Steelers need someone like Roby on their team: “Roby is a 5’11” 195-pound corner who has notched at least one interception every year of his five-year career. He also has had at least 10 passes defended every season except his 2016 season. Roby can cover and tackle, and he can force turnovers. He would be a great addition to a Steelers secondary who can’t seem to find that duo of outside corners that will stick.”

They need to extend Maurkice Pouncey a contract extension.

  • Like Roethlisberger, Pouncey is entering his last season with the Steelers, and Roethlisberger has made clear that he'll be happy to continue playing with the Steelers if Pouncey is beside him. So, if the Steelers extend the quarterback's contract, they should also extend the contract to the center that's the perfect foil for Roethlisberger.

Above all else, the Steelers need to achieve closure with both Le'Veon Bell and Brown. While Bell hasn't been too much of an issue for the team, Brown has brought nothing but drama to a team that could have done a lot better without it. The only way the team can move past it is to keep going.
