Vince Carter has been one of the most dominant scorers and dunkers in NBA history and has become a journeyman over the last few years. Even at the age of 42, Carter is still balling out and can throw down some impressive dunks. After a season with the Atlanta Hawks, Carter will be looking for the right fit.

During the 2018-19 season with the Hawks, Carter ended up averaging 7.4 points per game to go along with 2.6 rebounds and 1.1 assists. Those numbers aren't amazing, but they aren't awful for a veteran bench piece.

Looking ahead at NBA free agency, there are quite a few stars ready to hit the open market. There will be a lot of money switching hands and quite a few teams looking to make major moves. Carter will not be in the first few waves of free agency, but whoever signs him is going to get a lot of publicity.

Carter will get a retirement tour this season, as it will be his last of an amazing 21-year career thus far. He is still the kind of guy that can play a solid 15-20 minutes per game for a contender or be a veteran mentor for an up-and-coming team.

All of that being said, let's dive in and take a look at three ideal landing spots for Carter in free agency.

Vince Carter, Knicks

3. New York Knicks

New York has plenty of cap space to work with and they are hoping to sign a superstar like Kevin Durant. If they miss out on that kind of a splash, they could give Carter a great farewell tour.

Carter would be able to play on one of the grandest stages in the entire NBA. He could help mentor young talent like Kevin Knox, R.J. Barrett, and Allonzo Trier as well. This would not be a move that helps Carter contend for a championship, but it would sell tickets in New York and give him a great last season of exposure.

2. Los Angeles Lakers

If Carter wants to contend for a title, the Lakers could make a lot of sense for him. LeBron James and Anthony Davis are in need of more talent around them and some shooting. Carter may not be the elite scorer that he once was, but he can knock down some shots from the perimeter in limited minutes.

Vince Carter

Los Angeles also doesn't have a lot of cap room to work with. They could be looking to split that cap space up among multiple free agents. Carter would likely be willing to take the veteran's minimum and could compete for a ring alongside James to finish out his career.

1. Toronto Raptors

Finally, the Raptors would make perfect sense for Carter. Everything began for him in Toronto and they are coming off of an NBA Finals victory over the Golden State Warriors. If Kawhi Leonard returns, the Raptors could offer Carter a chance to contend for a ring with the team that he started his career with.

Fans in Toronto would love to see Vince Carter come home for one last run. He wouldn't be a major impact player, but it would be awesome to see him back north of the border.
