New Chicago Bulls point guard Coby White came into the 2019 NBA Draft as one of the top guards available in the draft class. Even though there are some who question his ability to translate his game at the professional level, he has big-time potential as a scorer and showed flashes of deadly playmaking ability during his time at North Carolina.

The Bulls entered the draft this year looking for an impact player at guard. Zach LaVine has proven himself to be one of the vital pieces of their future, but Kris Dunn did not prove that he can step up as a starting point guard. That led to the Bulls drafting White.

Some fans wanted to see Jarrett Culver fall to Chicago, while others were hoping that the team would get lucky with Darius Garland.

Despite the thoughts of the media and fans, White is the newest member of the Bulls. He averaged 16.1 points per game as a freshman with the Tar Heels, also chipping in 4.1 assists and 3.5 rebounds. White shot 42.3 percent from the field overall and knocked down 35.3 percent of his three-point attempts.

White may not be a perfect selection for the Bulls to some, but there are plenty of reasons to argue that he was. Let's go ahead and take a look at three of those reasons.

3. White Has the Size to Be a Matchup Problem for Opponents

Standing in at 6-foot-5 and 185 pounds, White has the size to create issues for opposing defenses. There are quite a few point guards that will stand four or five inches shorter than him. With his ability to shoot the ball, that could become a major positive for Chicago.

Add in the fact that White has solid athleticism and the Bulls have to feel good about their new point guard. Playing undersized point guards can be a major disadvantage, but the Bulls aren't going to have to worry about that.

2. His Three-Point Shooting Will Be a Big Addition

Granted, White had some consistency issues during his one season in college. He ended up shooting 35.3 percent from beyond the arc, but there is plenty of room for him to grow. Thankfully, White has shown massive improvement in his shooting nearly each year of his career.

He has shown off deep range and the ability to get his shot off at will. Chicago has needed more shooting and they are getting a deadly shooter in White. There is work to be done, but he has the talent and work ethic to get to where the Bulls need him to be.

1. The Playmaking Potential Is Definitely There

Finally, the Bulls were not happy with the playmaking and point guard skills that Dunn displayed. That led them to look elsewhere for a point guard. White has a lot of work to do as a floor general, but he has excellent ball-handling potential and he is a willing passer.

Chicago may have to wait a few years for him to truly develop this skill, but the raw talent is there. If the coaching staff can work closely with him and he reaches the potential he is capable of, the Bulls without question have their new point guard of the future.
