The Philadelphia Eagles are in an enviable position heading into the 2022 NFL Draft. General manager Howie Roseman was able to obtain future draft capital while retaining picks in the first round of this year's draft. It's an impressive achievement that has the Eagles set up for success both now and in the future. There are plenty of defensive prospects available for the taking in the first round, a route that many project the Eagles to take. It would certainly be a smart move by Roseman to improve a defense that has needs at the linebacker spots and in the secondary.

With the 15th and 18th picks in the first round, the Eagles can add two capable starters right off the bat. Many fans would like to see the team select one of the many wide receiver prospects available for the taking. While there's certainly a chance of that happening, a wide receiver might not represent the best fit for the Eagles.

Philadelphia needs to select a cornerback with one of their first-round picks. Not just any cornerback. LSU's Derek Stingley Jr. is the best fit for the Eagles in the 2022 NFL Draft. Here's why.

3 Reasons Derek Stingley Jr. Is Perfect Fit For Eagles In NFL Draft

3. Stingley might be the best cornerback in the draft

Derek Stingley Jr. burst onto the scene as a freshman at LSU in 2019, as he intercepted six passes while appearing in 15 games. The excellent campaign earned him All-American honors and gave NFL scouts a tantalizing look at his potential. However, injuries, including a torn ligament in his left foot this past year, have limited him to just 10 games in his last two college seasons. The LSU product comes with durability concerns, but he has the potential to be future Pro Bowler. Stingley would help make an Eagles' pass defense that ranked 11th in the NFL one of the league's very best.

2. Stingley would give the Eagles the third corner they're missing

Cornerback isn't necessarily a position of need for the Eagles, as they currently have Pro Bowler Darius Slay and solid starter Avonte Maddox on the depth chart. Slay is known for locking up the opposing team's best wideout, while Maddox's skills are best suited as a slot cornerback. Drafting Stingley would allow Maddox to shift inside to slot duties, with Slay and the LSU product locking things up on the outside. The Eagles would not only possess three of the speediest corners in the league, but three of the best.

1. Stingley is a perfect fit for the Eagles defense

Stingley is the kind of tall, athletic corner that defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon is looking for. The LSU star can play in both man and zone-based schemes, has big-play ability, and is even solid in run support. The injury risk Stingley carries with him might just result in him falling down to where the Eagles can select him. If that occurs, Roseman must pounce on the talented corner in the 2022 NFL Draft.
