It's been an interesting offseason so far, but the Atlanta Falcons found themselves in a world of hurt after Calvin Ridley was found gambling during his time away from the team. The front office was likely to trade him to another franchise, but now, Ridley will be sitting the sidelines for another full year. For that reason we take a look at some possible trades the Falcons must make to replace Calvin Ridley for the 2022 NFL season.

It'll be interesting to see who Atlanta can acquire via trade. They don't have a great cap situation, but the Falcons can still make a trade for a talented receiver. This offense is hurting for pass catchers, so we should see this franchise be aggressive in trying to find competent wide receivers to help out Matt Ryan and Kyle Pitts.

Three veteran receivers stand out as possible trade targets for the Falcons. Although Atlanta needs to focus on adding youth to the roster, they could maintain relevancy by adding a veteran to the offense. Considering the NFC South is wide open right now, a good deal could make this team a playoff contender in the 2022 NFL season.

With that said, here are three possible Calvin Ridley trades the Falcons could make after his suspension.

Falcons Trades Before 2022 NFL Season

3. Trade for Jarvis Landry

With the Cleveland Browns potentially making multiple changes to the offense, now is the time for Jarvis Landry to be traded. Although he's a veteran, he'd easily become the top wide receiver on the Falcons' roster. He'd be a great addition to Atlanta, as he'd provide consistency while allowing the front office to possibly select an exciting rookie receiver in the NFL Draft.

His cap hit is just over $16 million, which isn't ideal. However, Landry is due to hit free agency in the 2023 offseason. So, the Falcons would receive a one-year rental to likely lead the way while a rookie develops. Considering the Browns might looking to dump cap space, Atlanta could acquire Landry for minimal draft compensation. It'd be a smart move for this franchise.

2. Trade for Tyler Lockett

The Seattle Seahawks have officially entered a rebuild after trading Russell Wilson to Denver Broncos. It's speculated they plan to deal Tyler Lockett away as well, who would be an intriguing pass option for the Falcons. Lockett provides consistency as a deep threat who can stretch the field. With Calvin Ridley no longer in the equation, Atlanta should inquire Seattle about trading for Tyler Lockett.

Although this would be a great acquisition for the Falcons, Lockett's contract situation makes this deal difficult. Even so, Tyler Lockett would be a great receiver for multiple years, which could help the Falcons' pass offense develop nicely. We'll see how it plays out, but Atlanta should be in the mix for the Seahawks' star receiver.

1. Trade for Brandin Cooks

Similar to Jarvis Landry, Brandin Cooks is set to be a free agent in 2023. He's been a consistent wide receiver throughout his career and proved that once again playing for the hobbled Houston Texans. Cooks would be an exciting acquisition that would immediately improve the passing attack in Atlanta, making them a potential contender in the weak NFC South. The Falcons should pull the trigger if they have the chance.

Cooks has a similar cap hit to Landry as well, but he is a better receiver than Landry as well. If the Falcons hope to make a playoff appearance, trading for Brandin Cooks would only help them achieve that goal. We'll see how it plays out, but working out a deal with the Texans would be a smart move for this franchise.
