The Jimmy Garoppolo saga has gotten all kinds of weird in San Francisco. The longtime 49ers quarterback seemingly had his days numbered after they drafted Trey Lance last year. Then it seems a near certainty once again after they fell short of the Super Bowl this past postseason.

But now it appears that there's a possibility wherein Jimmy G actually sticks around in a Niners uniform. None other than 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan admitted that he “sees a scenario” where Garoppolo remains in San Francisco for the 2022 NFL season.

49ers coach Kyle Shanahan, here at the NFC coaches breakfast, says he sees a scenario where Jimmy Garoppolo is on the roster in 2022 and acknowledges the surgery delayed trade talks. As for if both Trey Lance and Jimmy G are on the roster, Shanahan declines to name a starter.

One huge factor in all this is the fact that Jimmy Garoppolo's trade value has reportedly cratered due to the fact that he had shoulder surgery on his throwing arm earlier this month. At to that the fact that said surgery was not under the supervision of the 49ers themselves as he acted under his own volition.

This has raised a huge red flag for any team thinking of pulling the trigger for Jimmy G. With several teams already taking a swing at other veteran quarterbacks around the league, the market is a lot drier than it was just a couple of weeks ago.

Couple that with the fact the Trey Lance hasn't exactly shown himself to be ready to take the reins on a serious playoff contender in the brief appearances he's made on the field thus far.

With minimal incentive to trade Jimmy Garoppolo, the San Francisco 49ers just might have to keep him. Kyle Shanahan certainly sees it happening, too.
