There is plenty of speculation regarding the severity of the Achilles injury suffered by Golden State Warriors forward Kevin Durant. It seems San Francisco 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman has an idea of what could be bothering him.

Durant suffered the injury during Game 5 after making his return from a calf strain. Sherman gave his own prognosis of the injury indicates that the Warriors' star was able to avoid a crucial tear, via Twitter.

“He probably strained his Achilles. If he tore it he wouldn’t be able to flex that ankle.”

It is not often that another professional athlete is able to provide an accurate diagnosis of another player's injury. However, Sherman's comments certainly carry some weight in this department considering his own experience. He tore his Achilles during the 2017 campaign before making his comeback in San Francisco. Based off what he has seen from Durant's injury, he has surmised that the Warriors star suffered a strained Achilles on the play.

One of the biggest storylines surrounding the NBA Finals was Durant's health. He had been out for a month nursing a calf strain he suffered earlier in the playoffs. With his team down 3-1 in the series against the Toronto Raptors, he seemingly had no choice but to make his return. Unfortunately, it was short-lived after he was forced to exit early in the second quarter.

While news of Durant's injury is certainly unfortunate, Sherman's update provides an optimistic outlook on his future. The 10-time All-Star was reportedly set to test the market as a free agent this offseason and was undoubtedly seeking a lucrative payday with the team. although the recent injury should have no effect on his status as one of the NBA's elite, his prospects look much better if Sherman is correct.
