The San Francisco 49ers are 3-0, but are they any good?

While they are undefeated, San Francisco's opponents are a combined 1-8, as pointed out by a Sacramento Bee article. That article, which points to the 49ers' lack of intimidating competition, essentially points to the questioning of how good the team is, despite being undefeated.

However, how good the teams are that the 49ers play isn't in their control. Cornerback Richard Sherman pointed that out by retweeting the article and saying “we can only play the teams on the schedule.”

To be fair to the author of the article, David Caraccio, San Francisco's opponents — the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Cincinnati Bengals, and Pittsburgh Steelers — don't necessarily strike fear into most.

However, neither do plenty of the highly touted 3-0 teams in the NFL. The Dallas Cowboys have faced opponents with a record of 1-8; the New England Patriots: 0-9; the Buffalo Bills: 2-7. Each team, on tape, looks the part of a good one. They too only play the teams on their schedule.

The 49ers aren't playing bad football, which their perfect record indicates. Though they turned the ball over five times on Sunday, they were able to persevere and get a win; no matter the team, that's impressive.

San Francisco's defense, led by Sherman, isn't one to scoff at either and should continue to progress throughout the season. A year after recording just two interceptions, the team has five. Their 283 yards allowed per game is second in the NFL.

The 49ers also sit in the top-ten in sacks (13), total points allowed (96) and first downs given up per game (15). Not bad football at all.
