The San Francisco 49ers have been one of the best defenses in football all year long. That hasn't stopped in the playoffs, and clearly it still hasn't stopped in the Super Bowl.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has gotten a reputation as one of the best in the NFL. One of the reasons for that is his ability to throw the ball a lot, without throwing interceptions.

Mahomes throws for a lot of yards and a lot of touchdowns, but he tends to stay away from interceptions.

So when the 49ers forced Mahomes to throw his second interception of the Super Bowl, that seemed odd. The reason it seemed out of place was simply because it was.

This was the first multi-interception game for Mahomes in 440 days. Seriously.

That's absolutely ridiculous. More than a full year since Mahomes threw multiple interceptions in a game. In case you were wondering, there were 23 games (regular season and postseason) between multi-interception performances.

That right there is proof of two things. First of all, Mahomes is not human. Second, the San Francisco defense is a different animal.

San Francisco has been fantastic all year, and now in the biggest game of the season, against arguably the best quarterback, they are showing up.

It remains to be seen if the 49ers and that defense can finish the job and beat Mahomes and the Chiefs. However, they have proven that they can at least slow down the ridiculous offense of Kansas City. That right there is something most teams have not been able to do in any capacity in a long time.
