The San Francisco 49ers weren't about to let their stud inside linebacker Fred Warner walk away. Getting set to enter the last year of his contract, Warner and the Niners agreed on a 5-year extension, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Five years, $95 million with $40.5 million of the deal guaranteed. Talk about a massive payday and a well deserved one at that for Warner.

In his three years so far in the NFL after being drafted out of BYU, not only has Warner not missed a game for the 49ers, he has started in every single game in all three seasons. Last year, Warner tallied 125 combined tackles including 5 tackles-for-loss. And now, he's getting a big raise because of it.

As far as putting this contract into context from a league wide perspective, it doesn't get any better in NFL league history than what the 49ers dished out to Warner.

Highest-paid inside linebacker must have a nice ring to it.

As for the 49ers, they are trying to bounce back after a season that was riddled with injuries from the start of the year. San Francisco was never able to get back a lot of their key pieces who suffered season ending injuries in 2020 and if they're able to avoid the bug in key areas, they should be able to get back into contention for the NFC crown.

It was just back on February 2, 2020 that the 49ers represented the NFC in the Super Bowl, ultimately falling to the Chiefs. There are questions at quarterback but on the defensive side, it's a stacked unit that includes the newly paid Fred Warner.
