It looks like the San Francisco 49ers are not rushing to trade Jimmy Garoppolo, and for good reason.

The market for Garoppolo is basically non-existent at this point after the quarterback opted to undergo surgery for his throwing shoulder earlier in the offseason. As 49ers general manager John Lynch said, they were close to trading the veteran signal-caller before the injury and eventual surgery threw a wrench to those plans.

Despite that, they have no problem keeping Garoppolo and having him play for the 49ers in the 2022 season if needed.

“I felt we were close in some discussions and then the decision was made to have surgery and it brought things to a screeching halt,” Lynch said, per Jake Hutchinson of KNBR. “We either want to have Jimmy playing for us, which we're alright with, or we want him to get the value.”

The 49ers wanted to part ways with Jimmy Garoppolo to officially give Trey Lance the keys to their offense, as well as to create some cap space. However, no one can blame them for staying patient when it comes to any trade for the QB.

First and foremost, as mentioned, there is little to no interest in Garoppolo as it currently stands. Furthermore, the 49ers can possibly have more trade options for him if they wait until he recovers and become 100 percent healthy.

With that said, Garoppolo should be a Niner for a little while longer.
