For around a half month now, PAC has been the inaugural All-Atlantic Champion of AEW.

Now, to a more casual fan of the promotion, the All-Atlantic title might have been forgotten since that excellent four-way title match at Forbidden Door, as it has not really been mentioned, nor has PAC really been featured on AEW programming since. Fortunately, Tony Khan has not forgotten about the belt, and seems to have very unique plans with it moving forward, as it has been announced that PAC will be defending the new title but there's a catch – it won't be in AEW, or even in the United States for that matter either. No, for Pac to wrestle for the All-Atlantic Championship, he will instead need to go across the Atlantic to England, where he will wrestle against another stand-out performer from Forbidden Door in NJPW's Shota “Shooter” Umino, who just so happens to be on excursion with RevPro UK as we speak.

The announcement was a win-win for everyone involved, as it helps to promote AEW in a country where the promotion is currently killing it in the ratings, and for the fans of AEW who do not live in England but still want to watch the historic match, you are in luck too, as AEW will be re-airing the match on the Tuesday, July 12th edition of AEW Dark.

But is this the first time an AEW title has been defended outside of the country, let alone the promotion? Let's take a look and see.

AEW has flirted with the idea of external title defenses in the past.

As things presently stand, AEW has had exactly one title match held outside of the promotion when Kenny Omega put the AEW World Championship on the line in Impact for the rights to challenge Rich Swann for the Impact World Title in a winner-takes-all bout at Rebellion. While Omega's other two title matches in the promotion weren't for the AEW belt and were exclusively contested for Impact's top belt, the prospects of an outside talent like Swann taking the belt off of Omega and keeping it in the ImpactZone made for a Pay-Per-View brought in plenty of extra attention.

But that match was still held in the United States of America, which PAC's All-Atlantic Championship match won't be. No, other than contender matches like the Women's World Championship Eliminator Tournament, the mini-tournament to decide on the NJPW representatives in the matches to decide the AEW Interim World Championship, the AEW All-Atlantic Championship, and Thunder Rosa's battle with Miyu Yamashita in Stardom that earned her a match for the AEW Women's Championship on a future episode of AEW television, the promotion hasn't held a single match on foreign soil to decide on a new champion.

… but in the sea? Well, there have been a few matches contested on international waters via the Jericruise; one televised match for the AEW Tag Team Championship that saw SCU drop the belts to the team of Omega and “Hangman” Adam Page, and a pair of matches where Sonny Kiss and then Chuck Tailor challenged Ricky Starks for the FTW championship, which didn't make it onto television.

Whether good, bad, or indifferent, the PAC match at RevPro is one for the history books can could hop up the potential for a few more interesting matches down the line too, including another defense of the All-Atlantic Championship performed in Dublin where “The Bastard” will take on LJ Cleary.
