The Afterplay.io browser-based retro console emulator has just released a flurry of new updates that makes the browser emulator more up to par with emulator programs.

Afterplay.io has implemented a series of updates to improve the emulation quality of the website this January. These updates include reboot functionality, speed control, bilinear filter for the Nintendo DS emulator, UI updates, controller support, and expanded file format support.

Afterplay.io is a browser-based retro console emulator that you can access using your desktop, laptop, mobile device – any device that can run a browser. Currently, the website supports GameBoy, GameBoy Color, GameBoy Advance, and Super Nintendo ROMs. A premium version locked behind a $4.99 monthly paywall supports Nintendo DS, Nintendo 64, and PlayStation, with future updates looking to add emulations of the PlayStation Portable, Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo GameCube, Nintendo Wii, Xbox, and the Dreamcast.

Afterplay.io is a good alternative to the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pass subscription service. All you need are legally-owned ROMs for the various retro console emulators supported by the website. Once you've uploaded the ROMs, you can play them on the browser using your keyboard or even with a gamepad. Logging into the website would allow you to continue from where you left off regardless of from which device you'll be accessing the website. Your ROMs will be accessible from wherever you are.
