The Cincinnati Bengals have released Andy Dalton, which means he is open to sign with any team. With the draft over, it might be a little harder to find a spot, but there are still a few places that make sense.

Dalton has been on some bad Bengals teams over the last several years, but it still appears he can lead a team. Interceptions have always been a cause for concern with Dalton, but last year he still threw for 3,494 yards and 16 touchdowns. Dalton still has the talent to be a starting quarterback, but worst case he is a really good backup that could fill in if the starter goes down with an injury.

Let's look at the three best destinations for Dalton.

Minnesota Vikings

If he doesn't want a chance to compete for a starting job, and is okay being a backup the Minnesota Vikings make a whole lot of sense. The Vikings' backup quarterback Sean Mannion has been a fine reserve signal-caller, but if Kirk Cousins were to go down with an injury, Minnesota would be in trouble.

Bringing in Dalton would at least give them a chance to win games if Cousins were to go down with injury.

New England Patriots

When Dalton was on the trade market, the New England Patriots had no interest in signing him. Even though they didn't draft a quarterback, Dalton probably still isn't on their radar, but he should be.

Jarrett Stidham, Brian Hoyer, and Brian Lewerke are the three quarterbacks that are on the roster. If the Patriots want to compete for a playoff spot this season, Dalton would get them back into contention for that. He also would be a good solid backup that could be another voice in the ear of Stidham. Hoyer does a good job of that and Dalton would only be an extension a wise veteran presence.

Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars have been named a possible spot for Andy Dalton and that would be compatible. Gardner Minshew is expected to be the starting quarterback for the 2020 season. That can still be the case, but bringing in some good competition for him to push him could be a good move for the franchise. Who knows, maybe he could blow the coaches out of the water and send Minshew to the bench. This is a make-or-break year for the Jaguars coaching staff, so whatever they need to do to win should be the primary objective.
