Los Angeles Angels All Star outfielder Mike Trout had some kind words for teammate Shohei Ohtani after it was announced that Ohtani had won the American League MVP Award earlier Thursday.

The future Hall of Famer, Trout took to Twitter to acknowledge the accomplishment.

It’s been something special to witness what you’ve accomplished as a teammate. You have put together a season of your own… well deserved”

Ohtani was named American League MVP earlier Thursday, winning the award unanimously. Ohtani received all 30 first place votes from the Baseball Writers' Association of America. He became the first player to win the award unanimously since Mike Trout did it in 2014.

Ohtani accomplished something not seen since Babe Ruth over 100 years ago. Ohtani was among the best hitters in the game, amassing 46 home runs. He also finished tied for the league lead in triples, was among the league leaders in OPS and stole 25 bases, 8th most in the league.

He became only the sixth player ever to hit 45 or more home runs and steal 25 or more bases in the same season. The other five were Alfonso Soriano, Chipper Jones, Jose Canseco, Larry Walker and Barry Bonds.

Those numbers alone would put anyone into MVP consideration. But what set Ohtani apart was that he was also one of the league's best pitchers.

Ohtani went 9-2 with a 3.18 ERA, compiling 156 strikeouts in only 130 innings pitched. No player has ever struck out 30 or more batters and also hit 30 or more home runs in the same season.

The accomplishment is truly unique. Ohtani is only 27 years old, so this might not be the only time we talk about this.
