The last thing the Baylor Bears wanted to hear as they struggle early in the season is one of their best players getting injured. However, that’s exactly the card they were dealt after head coach Matt Rhule announced that wide receiver Chris Platt’s season is likely done for the year.

This is according to the Associated Press via ESPN, which also noted that defensive end Xavier Jones would be joining Platt on the sidelines for the remainder of the season with a different injury.

Per the report:

Baylor receiver Chris Platt is expected to miss the rest of the season because of a left knee injury.

Coach Matt Rhule said Tuesday defensive end Xavier Jones also is likely done for the year because of a broken bone in his foot.

Both players suffered their respective injuries during last Saturday’s 49-41 loss to the No. 3 Oklahoma Sooners in Waco.

Platt’s absence is the heavier blow of the two to the Bears, as the junior wide receiver is one of the few bright spots on the team that is winless through four games into this season. Platt’s 401 receiving yards is second on the team and sixth overall in the conference.

Filling the void left by Platt isn’t going to be easy but someone must step up and lend support to Denzel Mims down the field. Mims paces the team with 406 receiving yards and seven touchdowns on 18 catches.

Baylor will next face the Kansas State Wildcats on the road this coming Saturday. Things just got a little bit tougher for the Bears.
