The Chicago Bears held a press conference Wednesday morning to address the respective futures of head coach Matt Nagy and general manager Ryan Pace.

Nagy and Pace will return in 2021 after consecutive 8-8 seasons. But the rest of the press conference has hardly shed light on a future plan for the franchise.

Pace was rather mum when it came to how the team would handle quarterback Mitchell Trubisky and wide receiver Allen Robinson, both of whom will be free agents this offseason. He went full-on cliché in assessing the quarterback situation:

Pace essentially avoided the Robinson subject altogether after close to 12 months of failed extension talks and used the same phrase:

Chicago's leadership, including chairman George McCaskey and president Ted Phillips, said fixing the quarterback position is an important issue this offseason. Does that mean the Bears are prepared to move on from Trubisky?

The former No. 2 overall pick won three of his last four starts, and some insiders felt Trubisky did enough down the stretch to earn a new contract in 2021. The 26-year-old was far from spectacular in the team's playoff loss to the New Orleans Saints, but hardly benefited from an early dropped touchdown pass by Javon Wims that could have altered the complexion of the game.

As for Robinson, the 27-year-old is coming off consecutive 1,000-yard seasons. He also had 102 receptions this season, one year after hauling in 98 catches. Robinson has also said “everything is on the table” this offseason, but has also suggested he would not be open to the franchise tag.

The Bears have questions at quarterback. Their top receiver could be headed elsewhere, and the defense is only getting older.

Pace has a lot of work to do this offseason, and it's unclear which direction he'll take this franchise.
