Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver John Ross left the team to care for his son and the mother of his son – both of who had tested positive for COVID-19.

According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, he is set to return to training camp.

Ross never tested positive for COVID-19 himself. Due to that, the rules seem to be a little bit different. However, he still needs to pass some tests.

Ross is on his way back to the Bengals. But first, he needs to pass the requisite test to get off the COVID-19 list. It's that simple.

If Ross is cleared to return, the team has a very young and exciting offense. Ross and company have a new quarterback in 2020 first overall draft pick Joe Burrow.

With Burrow at the helm, Ross will be looking to have a true breakout season.

The Bengals' wide receiver has had some serious problems with injuries in his career. That included last season when he appeared in just eight games.

However, those eight games saw Ross set new career-highs in receptions (28) and receiving yards (506) while scoring three touchdowns.

With all of the injury issues he's had and a major uptick in production in 2019 – this certainly wasn't the way Ross wanted to begin his 2020.

That being said, it looks like things are starting to turn back in the right direction for him. And that breakout season could be back on track.

Ross joins a wide receiver group that boasts another young star in Tyler Boyd, as well as veteran superstar A.J. Green.

If those three can stay healthy and safe amid the pandemic – they could be in for some massive numbers with Burrow at quarterback now.

They also added Tee Higgins, who could be putting pressure on Ross when it comes to playing time. That makes the receiver's return even more important.

Hopefully, Ross can pass the requisite test and join the team as soon as possible – while staying healthy and safe.
