As the full-roster training camps get in full swing, the NFL players have yet to contract the coronavirus while playing football. However, life outside the camp is different and people are still susceptible to being exposed. The condition of Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver John Ross' young son and partner forced him to take a temporary break from football.

NFL Network reporter Mike Garafolo disclosed the news on Twitter:

John Ross once was one of the highly-touted prospects coming out of college. His three-year amateur career at the University of Washington saw him earn the AP Pac-12 Player of the Year and a first-team All-Pac-12 inclusion in 2016. The Cincinnati Bengals then selected Ross with the 9th pick in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

Despite being a highly-valued selection, he still competed with veterans Brandon LaFell, Cody Core, Tyler Boyd, and Josh Malone throughout training camp to be the starting wide receiver alongside A. J. Green. The start of the regular season saw Ross be stuck as the sixth wide receiver in the Bengals' roster. A knee injury caused him to miss Weeks 3–5.  He was eventually placed on injured reserve on December 4, 2017, with a shoulder injury that abruptly ended his rookie season.

In the 2018 season, Ross had a subpar tally with 21 receptions for 210 receiving yards and seven receiving touchdowns. A breakout season was about to come into fruition in Ross' 2019 campaign. In only the first two games of the season, Ross compiled more receiving yards than his initial two NFL seasons combined. However, on October 2, 2019, the Bengals placed Ross on injured reserve again as a result of his shoulder injury.

Ross finished last season with 28 receptions for 506 receiving yards and three receiving touchdowns through 8 games played. During the offseason, the Bengals declined the fifth-year option on Ross' contract which makes him a free agent in 2021.

Hopefully, Ross will be able to make it back to camp on time to seal his spot in the Bengals' offensive rotation. The 2020 season will see the former Washington Husky attempt to resurrect his career and live up to the high expectations that were initially set for him.
