For the first time in almost two decades, the Cincinnati Bengals are searching for a new head coach, and apparently, Los Angeles Rams quarterbacks coach Zac Taylor has a chance to be that guy, per Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

This comes following Marvin Lewis’ decision to step down as the team’s sideline boss after 16 years on the job. Although Lewis has already endorsed Hue Jackson as his possible successor in Cincinnati, that’s not stopping the Bengals from weighing their options and looking outside of the team for the next man to lead the franchise.

Taylor has yet to hold a head coaching position in the NFL nor at any level of football, but one thing about him is that he is familiar with the Cincinnati environment, as he served the Cincinnati Bearcats in 2016 as the program’s offensive coordinator.

Cincinnati did not win a single game in the playoffs during the lengthy tenure of Lewis as the Bengals’ head coach, though, he did lead the team to the postseason seven times and steered it to four AFC North titles, so a change in scenery on the sidelines might also usher in a shift in the franchise’s fate – for the better.

However, the Bengals need more than just a new head coach to rebound from a disappointing 2018 NFL season in which they finished with a poor 6-10 record.
