The Buffalo Bills have been without a legitimate starting quarterback ever since they parted ways with Tyrod Taylor this offseason. They did make a deal for another quarterback in former Cincinnati Bengals backup AJ McCarron.

That said, there is plenty of speculation that the Bills are among the teams looking to trade up in the 2018 NFL Draft to try and take a quarterback. According to Marc Sessler of NFL.com, McCarron is not concerned about the team bringing in another player to compete with:

“Listen, I can't worry about that because it creates mental clutter for myself. So if I create mental clutter for myself, I can't become the best player, the best teammate that I need to be for this team,” McCarron said Tuesday during a break in Buffalo's offseason workouts.

He added that he plans to do whatever he can to help the team next season.

“My focus, like I said, is to be the best leader, the best teammate, the best servant for the guys that are in this locker room, and that's what I'm trying to be,” McCarron told reporters. “So for me to worry about ifs and what could happen, it's just not a part of my DNA. I've never been that way and won't ever do it.”

His willingness to accept whatever role on his new team should hardly come as a surprise. The Bengals had reportedly agreed to send him to the Cleveland Browns during the 2017 NFL season. However, it was never finalized after the team never filed the paperwork.

As a result, McCarron filed and won a grievance against Cincinnati which allowed him to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason. That said, he is glad to finally get a fresh start with a new team.

McCarron could have added competition for that starting job if the Bills are able to move up. They currently own the 12th pick in the draft which means they are well out of reach of acquiring the top quarterback prospects. Fortunately, there are some teams in the top-5 that are reportedly willing to trade back for the right price.
