Earlier in the day on Wednesday, it was reported that the Seattle Seahawks were the favorites to sign free-agent defensive lineman Ezekiel “Ziggy” Ansah. Not so fast.

Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane has taken to 1270 The Fan to state that he thinks his team has a great shot of landing Ansah, as the Bills are in talks with the pass rusher.

“I don’t know where it came from,” Beane said of the report that the Seahawks were leading the chase. “Maybe it is fact. From the people I talked to that represent, they don’t see it as fact. Time will tell. … Certain people have been wrong more than they’re right, and I think it’s a poor job that they’ve done.”

Ansah visited with Buffalo earlier in the offseason, and Beane had said a month-and-a-half ago that the Bills were in contact with him. Apparently, those discussions are still ongoing.

“We’re still in talks with him and his agent,” Beane said. “Everything has been very good. All I’ll say about reports [Seattle is emerging as favorite] is I don’t buy into that garbage, especially when I consider where some of the sourcing comes from.”

Due to a persistent shoulder injury, Ansah played in just seven games with the Detroit Lions this past season, finishing with 11 tackles and four sacks.

The 29-year-old, who played his collegiate football at BYU, was originally selected by the Lions with the fifth overall pick of the 2013 NFL Draft. He made the Pro Bowl in 2015 after racking up 47 tackles and 14.5 sacks.
