The Buffalo Bills have continued to trek through a difficult 2018 campaign that has featured many issues at finding consistent play from the quarterback position.

This has seen rookie quarterback Josh Allen put on the mend over the last several weeks due to an elbow injury that he has progressively worked his way back. Head coach Sean McDermott indicated on Monday that Allen could be back in the fold following the Week 11 bye, according to Mike Rodak of ESPN.

“Josh is our starter, when healthy, and his development is important for him and for us moving forward,” McDermott said Monday. “Getting experience — you've seen a lot of quarterbacks this season play — and it's important that he gets as many reps as he can get in live game action.”

The 22-year-old had been able to return to practice this past week and was able to take the field without any setbacks or limitations. He had been reportedly pushing to take the field for Sunday's game against the New York Jets, but the team elected to keep him off the field at least for one more game. The fact that McDermott is voicing these comments at this point shows how close he is to making his return to the field.

In his absence, the Bills have struggled to get consistent play on the field under center that has only contributed to their woes. That said, Matt Barkley put together a strong outing in the 41-10 win over the Jets after completing 15 of 25 passes for 232 yards and two touchdowns. It also saw Pro Bowl running back LeSean McCoy put together his best outing of the season with 113 rushing yards on 26 carries and two touchdowns.

Allen should be in line to finish out his rookie campaign where he will be able to garner more much-needed experience to help further his progression.
