Just one day after a horrific mass shooting where 10 people lost their lives at a Buffalo grocery store, Buffalo Bills safety Micah Hyde decided to donate a portion of the proceeds from his charity softball game to the families of the victims.

“I still can't believe it,” Micah Hyde said when speaking about the shooting, which has been described by Buffalo authorities as racially motivated. “But when there's hate in the world, you kind of erase it with love, and coming out here today and showing the community love and love to the youth, love to the community, love to the foundation. I guess that's the way to combat it.”

The charity softball game, which was nearly canceled due to the tragedy that took place on Saturday, brought out over 10,000 spectators to Sahlen Field in downtown Buffalo. The first of Hyde's annual softball games in 2019 drew less than 2,000. At the event, a $200,000 sponsor-led check was presented to Micah Hyde's IMagINe For Youth foundation. In addition to the check, there was a silent auction held at the event which will see its proceeds donated to the victim's families.

Other members of the Buffalo Bills joined Micah Hyde at the event, including quarterback Josh Allen, tight end Dawson Knox, cornerback Tre'Davious White, and safety Jordan Poyer.

“My heart goes out to the victims and their families,” Allen said. “We really haven't talked as a team yet. We'll be in the building tomorrow and I'm sure we'll talk about it and figure out a way to help the situation, help the families out. It's something that you never think it's gonna happen in your community and when it does, it hits home. I was sick to my stomach all day yesterday. I was flying back from my sister's graduation, and it was just, it's gut-wrenching. It really is.”

Micah Hyde and the rest of the Bills are set to meet Monday to discuss the team's approach to help the community further.
