The Portland Trail Blazers, looking for some guard depth and more shooting, have signed Brandon Rush to a 10-day contract.

If he appears in a game with the Trail Blazers, it will be his first game with the team, but he has been with Portland before.

He was actually drafted 13th in the 2008 NBA draft before being shipped off to the Indiana Pacers along with Jarrett Jack and Josh McRoberts, for Jerryd Bayless and Ike Diogu.

Rush hasn't lived up to the potential that the Pacers hoped for when they traded for him in 2008, but he has been a serviceable shooter. In his career, he has averaged 22 minutes putting up 6.8 points per game.

His best season in the league was in his second year when he played all 82 games and averaged 9.4 points per game and shot over 41 percent from three.

For the Trail Blazers, it's a good flier on a player that could provide some decent shooting off the bench. If he doesn't perform up to their expectations, they can choose to not resign him after the first ten days, and both sides can be on their separate ways.

The former national champion with Kansas, when healthy, could be a valuable two-way player for Portland. However, injuries have derailed his career, having played only 47 games last season for the Minnesota Timberwolves. His injury history doesn't get better even if we dig deeper into his career.

As it turns out, the Blazers have tried to make amends with their draft decisions from past. Prior to signing their old draftee in Rush, their social media team even apologized, on behalf of the organization, to Kevin Durant for not taking him first overall in the 2007 draft.
