As the 2017-18 NBA season approaches, one of the yearly traditions are player rankings from ESPN, Sports Illustrated, and other websites. Unless players are LeBron James, who has been considered the best player for past decade or so, they will likely disagree or use it as motivation.

One player that the media and players usually disagree on is Carmelo Anthony. The 10-time All-Star was ranked No. 64 by ESPN and No. 37 by Sports Illustrated recently. On Twitter, Damian Lillard was asked about Anthony's player ranking after trying to recruit him to the Portland Trail Blazers all summer:

For most of Anthony's peers, they view him as one of the best scorers in the league. However, the media views him as a one-dimensional player who has never won a championship. As the debate goes on, the one-time champion's future with the New York Knicks remains uncertain.

Heading into training camp, the situation has not changed. As Anthony is only willing to waive his no-trade clause for the Houston Rockets, the Knicks new front office is unwilling to take on Ryan Anderson's remaining three-year, $60 million deal. At this point, a third team will need to get involved if Anthony wants to improve his chances of winning his first championship at this stage of his career.
