Portland Trail Blazers star point guard Damian Lillard says just like other players are doing what is best for their careers by changing teams and creating superteams, he's staying in Portland because it's what he wants to do for his career.

Lillard has consistently said he wants to retire with the Blazers and be the guy who brings Portland a title. The superstar signed a five-year, $196 million extension with the Blazers this summer.

“I think people are taking control because there’s no greater time to do it than now,” Lillard told Adam Caparell of Complex. “And I don’t have a problem with that, but the way I see stuff is, like, I don’t prefer to go that route. Just like they’re choosing to do this stuff for their career, I’m choosing to do what I want for mine, too.

“I wanna be the one, the star that wants to be here. I wanna be the one that embodies all of those things and then be a part of the rise from ‘we haven’t won since '77, and now we won, and Dame’s everything to our city.' “

Damian Lillard is the second-leading scorer in Blazers franchise history. He’s currently 5,131 points behind Hall of Famer Clyde Drexler. The four-time All-Star wants to win a championship in Portland and has no intention of leaving to form a superteam.

This past season, Lillard guided the Blazers to the Western Conference Finals. Dame averaged 25.8 points and 6.9 assists during the regular season.
