Evan Turner recently proved that he also lends his helping hand outside the court. Although he is used to setting screens and dishing out dimes for his teammates to score on easy baskets, the Portland Trail Blazers forward teamed-up with their sideline reporter, Brooke Olzendam, for a timely assist.

While driving on the I-5 freeway on Monday, Olzendam witnessed the car in front of her get hit by a van which twirled around. She then pulled over to offer help, as she saw Dianna Black in shock with what happened, and with the airbag of her vehicle deployed.

To the reporter’s surprise, a familiar voice offered to help them, and when she turned around to see who it was, Evan Turner had also pulled over to check on the accident. Olzendam narrated what happened, via Joe Freeman of The Oregonian, and how she felt when she saw the 28-year-old small forward.

“All of sudden I hear this, ‘Hey, what's going on? Can I help?” Olzendam said. “And it was Evan. He had pulled off — he was the only one to pull off — and I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, yes.'”

Turner stayed with them until the EMT arrived. He even offered her to sit in his Rolls Royce while waiting, together with Olzendam, as her car got totaled. It even took her a few more minutes to realize he was a Blazer and she was inside his expensive vehicle.

“Honestly, I was in a daze and she told me he was a Blazer and I was sitting in a Rolls Royce — I didn't want to touch anything,” Black said Tuesday night, laughing. “It just seemed like something out of the movies.”

Black suffered a concussion, chest contusion, and bruised knees, but is still thankful that both of them came to help. Evan Turner’s gesture goes to show what kind of person he truly is, and will be a good example to others as well.
